Light Fitting

Here at Creative Cables Australia & New Zealand we have the light fittings and electrical components to create your pendant, wall light or custom lighting project. Within our website we call light fittings lamp holders, fermaluce, DIY batten fix lighting or spostaluce lamp base with cable. These fixtures can be part of a pendant, table lamp, floor lamp, wall or ceiling light. The portable table and floor lights are usually referred to as lamps. They tend to have wall plugs and cable that runs between the wall and the lamp itself. More permanent lights like pendants, wall and ceiling lights don’t use the word lamp as often. Although with the addition of a plug a pendant can now have the flexibility of being moved around! Lamp holders are the lighting components that holds the light bulb. It’s the electrical connector which touches the connector within a light globe to send power for illumination. They can also be referred to as lightbulb sockets, lamp socket or light socket. Here at Creative Cables Australia & New Zealand we have a very wide selection of designer and traditional light fittings in many different materials. If you are after a vintage antique look have a look at the fittings in vintage brass, bronze and nickel. For a more modern classic look we have a range of porcelain lamp holders. Its smooth surface coupled with rope cable or natural fibre fabric cord is a design favourite. Wooden lamp holder are really popular at the moment for the eco sustainable décor. Or if colour is your thing have a look at the funky lamp holders made of silicone! Their bright colours and soft surface are idea for café lighting and interiors that love a bit of fun! The modern metallic range in copper, gold, brass, chrome, black pearl, black and white is ideal to create your very own lighting look. We even stock exclusive ranges in unusual colours such as kiwi, ultra violet, sapphire, emerald and lemon. Because we are an international company we have the luxury of creating our own light ranges and of course we would have the exact fabric cable to match!! The classic standard light fittings can be made of bakelite, painted bakelite and thermoplastic. These are in the classic colour range of black, white and gold. When choosing your lamp holder consider if it needs to have another function other than hold the light globe. These functions include having a hook to be fixed onto a chain for added support, an on/off switch, a pull switch for a vintage look or a build in dimmer. On off switches within a lamp holder can come in many forms. The dial has a historic quality in which the power source can be turned off at the point of the lamp holder. This is deal for lamps that are next to bed sides in bedrooms or lamps that are easy reach within the living room. The pull switch works the same way and also has a vintage style about it. Marry this with a vintage inspired Edison light bulb in a naked bulb pendant light and you’ll have quite the designer look. Lamp holder not only hold the light bulb but can be used to support a lamp shade. The ring that are added to the lamp holder are called ferrules and can clamp a lampshade in place to secure it for safety and design. When choosing your light fitting ensure you think about its final function. Add lamp shades to lights afterward without shade rings may not be possible. Lamp holders can also support multiple holes for fabric cable. Double sided entry lamp holders create a festoon party string of lights look. Light fittings support a range of light bulbs. Ensuring you match the bulb to the right lamp holder requires understanding the connector. We stock lamp holders in E14, E27, E40 and B22. These are the most popular sizes in Australia for decorative pendant lighting. E14 Edison 14mm is the smaller light bulbs shape used in multiple light lighting projects, chandeliers or where a small bulb is required. E27 Edison 27mm is the standard bulb fitting size. B22 Bayonet Cap 22mm is also the standard but is slowly being phased out. Many older lamps use this fitting and so we ensure we always have stock. E40 Edison 40mm holds the XXXL sized bulbs. Great for industrial spaces, large outdoor decoration or high end expansive restaurants you are sure to make a statement with these bulbs. They will differ on the internals. If you have an Edison lamp holder there is a metal thread on the internal which means a light globe can be screwed into it. The bayonet cap range have two pins which click into place. It is within the lamp socket that supports the terminals that connect to the light bulb. DIY batten fix lighting are also lamp holders but are fixed straight into the ceiling. This means no fabric cable is used. They often have the ability to attached shade to them. This is particularly helpful when you want to change up your lighting and don’t want to call the electrician. Alternatively, if it isn’t hardwired into the electrical system of your building use our range of wall lights that work the same way but use fabric cable so can plugged in. If you have never purchased a light fitting you will be amazed about what is inside! The internal piece is made of thermoplastic and with a series of pieces that screw together to support a plate where the cable wirings are attached. Over that is the decorative cover with a cable clamp to hold it into place. Add lampshade rings or a metal threaded rod to add to a lamp base. The small cable clamp itself can be a design feature as it come in metallic finishes and quite a few difference colours. The lighting components range also includes ceiling roses, plugs, dimmers, strain relief clamps and wall hooks. Our huge range of designer lighting accessories are sure the compliment your choice of light socket.
